Introduction

If you are relocating to Raleigh or considering moving within the Triangle, there is a good chance you have come across both Hasentree and Wakefield Plantation. My clients ask me all the time: “Which one is better—Hasentree or Wakefield?”

The honest answer? They are both incredible communities—but offer very different lifestyles.

I live in Wakefield and know it inside and out, but I have also helped many clients buy and sell in Hasentree. This is not a generic comparison—it is the real, boots-on-the-ground perspective you need to make a decision.

Why buyers compare Hasentree vs. Wakefield

These two communities come up together for a reason:

  • Both are master-planned golf course communities.
  • Both are in North Raleigh or Wake Forest.
  • Both offer strong schools, amenities, and long-term value.
  • Both attract relocating families and move-up buyers.

But once you dig deeper, the differences become very clear.

Location and commute comparison

From a location standpoint, the winner depends on what your priorities are.

Wakefield

Wakefield Plantation

  • Located in North Raleigh's 27614 zip code
  • Closer to I-540, RTP, and downtown Raleigh
  • More integrated into daily city life

Hasentree

Hasentree

  • Located in Wake Forest's 27587 zip code
  • About 20 minutes to Raleigh and 30–35 minutes to RDU
  • A more tucked-away, private setting

Comparison summary

Wakefield wins if commute and convenience to shopping, dining, and city amenities are your top priority.

Hasentree wins if privacy and a quiet, retreat-like setting matter more.

Lifestyle and amenities

Wakefield

Active, social, and family-centered

Wakefield revolves around The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation, which has been a huge part of my family's life.

  • Two Hale Irwin-designed golf courses
  • Pools, tennis, and pickleball
  • Swim team—a favorite summer activity for my family
  • Strong neighborhood events and social life

Hasentree

Luxury retreat, country club, and nature preserve

Hasentree takes things up a notch into resort-style living.

  • Tom Fazio golf course
  • Clubhouse and dining
  • Resort-style pool and fitness center
  • Tennis complex, trails, and lake access
  • Audubon-certified natural setting

Comparison summary

I give Wakefield the edge, but I may be biased after relocating from a big city. Wakefield offers a more urban feel and socially active lifestyle. I guide clients toward Hasentree when quiet and a slower pace are their preference.

Wakefield: social, active, family-centered, and lively.

Hasentree: private, peaceful, and more resort-like.
